How do you beat writer’s block? By being on the move.

Ideas often come to me when I am travelling (and when I’m scuba diving, hiking or practising ballroom dancing). The final series of twists in my novel Yesterday, for instance, came to me during a train ride from London to Winchester. Some of my most productive writing venues include planes, trains and airports. Maybe this is why Yesterday was written in more than thirty countries.

Writers can learn a lot outside their usual habitats. By going somewhere different to write, or by heading outdoors for a walk. Inspiration is often an alchemic response to something new or unexpected. I love change and movement because they spark exciting possibilities.
